 Birding Texas Waterways & Highways

Description: We depart from Fulton Harbor with one of our partner's - the celebrated Skimmer with Capt. Tommy Moore!  You will see more birds in one afternoon aboard The Skimmer  than some will see in a lifetime...year-round...seriously!  Ibis, Egrets, Herons, Osprey, Magnificent Frigate birds, Terns and Gulls, Sandpipers, Cormorants and Willets and of course....our pride and joy, the beautiful, hot pick Roseatte Spoonbills.  They are considered by many to be the Flamingo of Texas!  Check out the Texas Parks and Wildlife's Birding Checklist.  Also the Texas Coastal Bend has several designated locations along the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail and the Texas Tropical Trail.

Destination: Cedar Bayou, San Jose Island and Water Shuttle aboard The Skimmer

From mid-November thru Early April the Coastal Bend plays host to over 400 migratory birds to include the Endangered Whooping Cranes who call the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge their winter home.  They feast on blue crabs all along the flats and marshes of Blackjack Peninsula and are very easy to see by boat - in fact better than if on land.  Do bring your high-powered binoculars and camera lenses to get up-close and personal with all the birds spotted on your tour.

Parent-Child Kayak Fishing Class

Description:  Have you ever had the good luck of sneaking-up on a group of redfish while wading?  Well, just imagine fishing by kayak in regions of the Aransas Bay Water Complex - places where no boat has gone before.  Hector spends almost every day on the water - teaching, guiding and fishing.  You will learn safety skills, how to read coastal waters (strictly for fishing purposes).  Learning about water conditions and how they play into where the fish are and aren't is an important factor to fishing success.  You will learn which lures are successful in particular clarities of water and how to choose the right lure for that kind of water condition.  There is an additional fee for Coastal Bend Kayak to clean and bag your catch -  ready to go in your cooler.  Let Hector know in advance please.   A Texas fishing license and saltwater stamp is required. Visit: Texas Fishing License Info. (TPWD)

Cost: $200/parent-child team; bring your own rods and reels,

Lighthouse Lakes Trails

Description: This is the  premier kayaking destination of the Texas Gulf Coast.   Your guide, Hector Rios offers a truly one-of-a-kind adventure for paddlers of all skill levels. It is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy all the spectacular natural wonders that this area of the Coastal Bend has to offer.  The Texas Parks and Wildlife department has developed and maintains the trails in an area called North Harbor Island, just west of Port Aransas. The Lighthouse Lakes Paddling Trail is actually a series of four loops ranging in length from 1.25 miles to 6.8 miles. The trails meander through an extensive black mangrove estuary, into sloughs and back lakes near the historic 1857 Lydia Ann Lighthouse on North Harbor Island. Paddlers can paddle through mangroves and seagrass flats that provide outstanding bird watching and fishing.

Butterflies, hummingbirds (when in season) and a wide variety of  flowering and colorful vegetation are there for the viewing and exploration.  There will be stops along the way to small, uninhabited islands to comb the perfect beaches for souvenir seashells or driftwood.  Enjoy history and play with the idea of finding a hidden treasure?  Let Hector fill-you-in on  the historical facts and locations where LaSalle buried his ship's treasure or where the first native Indians once lived and thrived - the Aransazu tribe.   Peace, quiet and reflection is the goal of this journey.  There are not any noisy motor boats where you'll be going!
